After working in a development role for over 20 years and having previously covered development languages that's 'been and *long* gone' (and currently using various 'trendy' development platforms) I've came to the opinion that development per se does not give me any challenges anymore. After twiddling my thumbs for months and working on my own various social network websites (that failed *miserably* to attract visitors) I came across QR Codes in an article on Sky news.
Being an inquisitive type of person I spent long hours looking into QR Codes and their applications and came to the conclusion that these things could revolutionalise the whole mobile web platform. The only shortfall with QR codes is that they are static. Once you've created and printed your QR code in your advert there's no going back. If you change your website, want visitors to land on an alternative web page or track how many times your QR Code has been scanned then you need to get your website developers to change some coding on your website to handle this (and this isn't cheap). I've taken QR codes one stage further by creating dynamic QR codes called QRMe QR codes to save you a lot of time and money.
The web page you want your QR code to point to is simply stored on our QRMe.co.uk web server. Once the QR Code is scanned the mobile phone will refer to your QRMe account which will simply redirect the mobile phone to your chosen web page. Now all you have to do is log into your QRMe account to change your QR Code. To check how many times your QRMe QRcode has been scanned simply log into your account.
I'm offering this basic service free for anyone who would like to use this technology to help advertise / promote their business. All you have to do is register, log in and save your unique QRMe QR Code and include it in your advert. Your advert will be the centre of attention amongst all those other outdated text/picture only adverts. One click of a mobile phone scan button will take your potential customers to your e-commerce site. Just image commuters on a train or bus bored and wishing for the journey to end and they see your advert. How likely will they scan it (if only out of curiosity) ?.
I've developed mailorder systems, inventory systems, web-based barcode picking systems, re-coded MRP systems, created datacapture systems, mailsort systems and a whole lot more for some big multi national-household names and am smitten by simply technolgy like this - purely down to the fact that it's uses are endless. Take a few minutes to think of how you or your business could utilise this technology and you'll be amazed.
Thank you for making my (initial) pet project such a success.
Ian
